Bombshell - Newt's Ex-Wife Marianne Unloads On Camera

Newt Gingrich's ex wife Marianne apparently has done a tell-all two hour interview with ABC's Brian Ross about her marriage to Gingrich. That would be wife number two, the one he was having an affair with when wife number one had cancer and the one he ditched while he was having an affair with number three, Callista. Talk about flip flopping!

You had to know all along this was going to surface, and not at a good time. Marianne has said she could end Gingrich's career with one interview, and this one may be it. They were married 19 years, and to add insult to injury, Newt actually tried to have the marriage annulled!

Here's another nifty bit from the same 2010 Esquire interview, after Marianne found out about Newt's ongoing affair with Callista:

She kind of guessed it, of course. Women usually do. But did she know the woman was in her apartment, eating off her plates, sleeping in her bed?

She called a minister they both trusted. He came over to the house the next day and worked with them the whole weekend, but Gingrich just kept saying she was a Jaguar and all he wanted was a Chevrolet. “‘I can’t handle a Jaguar right now.’ He said that many times. ‘All I want is a Chevrolet.’”

He asked her to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused.

He’d just returned from Erie, Pennsylvania, where he’d given a speech full of high sentiments about compassion and family values.

The next night, they sat talking out on their back patio in Georgia. She said, “How do you give that speech and do what you’re doing?”

“It doesn’t matter what I do,” he answered. “People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.”

Newt Gingrich is obviously taking it pretty seriously - he cancelled a press conference to try and work something out with her,but if the interview's already on tape there's no way ABC won't run it.

According to Drudge, there was a pretty huge dust up within ABC about whether to air it before or after the South Carolina primary, and the Network tentatively decided to air the interview next Monday, after all votes have been counted.

This could mean we have a situation where Gingrich finishes well, but ultimately implodes once America gets to hear what Gingrich's ex has to say.

Politico, on the other hand, is saying it's going to air tomorrow - right before the debate. That makes a great deal more sense, but we'll see.

Herman Cain: 'Maybe I Did, But Ain't Nobody's Business'

Herman Cain is reportedly 'reassessing' his campaign after the latest allegations of a 13 year affair with Ginger White, an Atlanta woman surfaced yesterday.

White went public in an interview with an Atlanta TV station, describing the sex as consensual and admitting that she knew Cain was married and that she’s “not proud” of what she described as a long-running affair with the married GOP candidate. “It was pretty simple,” Ms. White said in the interview. “It wasn’t complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship.”

She also said that Cain had given her money on occasion and produced cellphone bills that included 61 phone calls or text messages to and from a number she said was for Herman Cain’s private cellphone. When the station sent a text message to the number, Cain called back and acknowledged knowing Ms. White.

He then went on to issue the following statement, in an attempt to get out in front of the storm:

Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault - which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults - a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public's right to know and the media's right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one's bedroom door.

Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media.

In other words, if you read between the lines, Cain was saying 'maybe I did, but it's nobody's business and I won't discuss it'. One of his handlers obviously got hold of him shortly afterwards and slapped some sense into him and he's since issued an outright denial, essentially saying that either his supporters are going to believe him or Ginger White, which doesn't explain a lot.

It's pretty obvious to me that at least some of the allegations about Cain's zipper problem are true, and I actually agree with him that it isn't anyone else's business - except that's not how presidential campaigns work, and someone cheating on his spouse matters to a lot of people.

In 'The Prince', Machiavelli famously said that only the prince she be allowed to lie as a tool of governing. What he didn't say but ought to be obvious is that the Prince must be able to lie well enough to appear credible, ala' Mr. Clinton.

Cain appears to have failed this elementary test of leadership, as he has so many others.

If he bails, it will be interesting to see where his supporters end up going - to Newt Gingrich or to Michele Bachmann.

I would only add to what Scalzi says that it's worth remembering that then-graduate assistant and now assistant coach Mike McQueary, the guy who originally saw the child rapist in action and did nothing to stop it not only still has his job but has apparently been promoted with Paterno's firing.

They're claiming that two sources have told them that a female employee of the National Restaurant Association told associates she had been taken by Herman Cain to his Crystal City, Virginia residence where she alleged “he had taken advantage of me.”

One source, a male, told PJ Media:

"Herman took advantage of seniority and power with a young woman. It was an abuse of power."

Implying that coming forward with the accusations was an ordeal for the young woman, the source also said:

"Who do you believe, a CEO or a mid-level staffer? It was unsettling for her to make charges."

The name of the woman — who was in her early twenties at the time of the alleged incident — has been confirmed by PJ Media. We have chosen not to reveal her identity for reasons of discretion.

Both sources, one male and one female, worked at the time — mid-1990s — for the governmental affairs department of the National Restaurant Association, as did the woman.

According to the female source, Mr. Cain and the woman had been with a large group for a long evening of food and drink at the Ciao Baby Cucina, a restaurant near NRA headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C. This was a normal routine, as the trade association worked with the food and beverage industry. Afterwards, Mr. Cain allegedly took the woman by taxi to his apartment, where she spent the night and woke up.

The female source told PJ Media that she witnessed the woman and Herman Cain break away from the large group as part of a smaller group.{...}

Both sources claim that during this period following the incident while the woman was still employed, the NRA’s human resources office held many “closed door meetings” that included her. The woman’s parents retained legal counsel and arranged an undisclosed financial settlement.

Today, the NRA is expected to meet with attorney Joel P. Bennett, who represents one of the women who have made claims against Mr. Cain. Bennett has stated he wants the NRA to terminate a confidentiality provision which bars his client from revealing the grounds for the settlement.

All this comes on top of allegations by conservative talk radio host Steve Deace, who claims that Herman Cain said “things to both of my female staffers that at best are professionally awkward if not inappropriate over the last several months.”

At least now, we have some specifics that go beyond allegations of inappropriate words or gestures.

Again, if a company paid two separate accusers a years' salary on behalf of Herman Cain, there's no way he couldn't have known about it. So in the multiple and constantly changing stories he given the public, he was simply not being candid.

Another point I think is worth mentioning. It is certainly possible that in this case, the sex could have been consensual, or simply the result of a little to much to drink on the part of the woman mentioned above. Perhaps she simply changed her mind about things after the fact. That's not exactly unknown.

But the fact remains that if Herman Cain as a married CEO was guilty of this kind of lapse in judgment with one of his employees, that is evidence of stupidity that makes it even more clear than his serial gaffes that he's not qualified to be president.

In other news, the Cain campaign has backed down from its claim that the Rick Perry campaign was behind this. Yet another dumb move on their part that backfired.
